designs
Coral has been used as a
gemstone since prehistoric times. Consisting of calcium carbonate (calcite)
and a trace of carotene, coral is formed from skeletal remains of the critters
that live and die in our oceans and seas. It grows as branch like features
that look like underwater trees.
The most valuable colors
of coral are red, black, and pink, although most is dyed for a stronger color.
Coral, having a hardness of only 3.5, is much softer than other gemstones.
Additionally, it is porous so it should not come into contact with chemicals.
To clean your coral jewelry, wipe it gently with a moist soft cloth.
Coral is said to
be an important gemstone, especially to those born under the sign of Aries.
It is said to suppress a fiery nature in that it protects and strengthens one's
emotional foundation.
Most coral is found
in the Mediterranean Sea or in the Pacific off the coast of Japan and Taiwan,
in addition to Australia and the African coast.
Coral gemstones are very often
put with turquoise for a stunning coral and turquoise jewelry
combination. This coral and turquoise combination is one of my
favorites and can be seen here in the handmade coral jewelry of
Danielle's Creations.
